As of now, there are some 17 entrance tests held to fill more than
30,000 seats in around 271 medical colleges. Now with NEET, there will
be a single entrance examination for all these colleges offering MBBS
courses. Basically this will cover all the medical colleges coming under
the ambit of Medical Council of India (MCI). 138 of these colleges are
run by governments while 133 come under private management.
The ministry has also set a coordination committee to address any
issue related to admission process, reservations, regional language as
medium for conduct of NEET etc. Another important change is that the
qualifying criterion has been changed from percentage of absolute marks
to percentile to ensure that no seat remains unfilled. This was done to
address the concerns that some seats might go unfilled with the
introduction of common entrance. The MCI has also revised the syllabus
for the entrance exam.
What do yo think about the new entrance test? Will be reduce the stress among students?
